London DIY Meeting?

Hello all, is anyone interested in meeting up? It'd be nice to meet some new folks and you know 'make stuff' together. Any ideas are welcome. I was thinking we could meet at a pub and make cards or draw or some such.

Hey Sooz... sorry I've not popped in in a while. This sounds like a great idea, what were you thinking?

Well, in the States, there are quite a few groups in different cities. They teach workshops and hold independent sales as well as meet up to share ideas. There's the Church of Craft. Apparently, a chapter exists in east London. There are also various "Craft Mafias" that have sprung up. I don't understand why London doesn't have any? I guess people are too busy drinking and working! I think it's a great way to network, motivate and inspire budding designers.

I couldn't find a link for an East London Church of Craft, but I have heard of Craft Mafia... I always thought it was strange not to have a London branch... maybe we should start one?! There needs to be 3 of us though...

I'm always up for getting myself out there and am more than happy to work in a team (where my workload allows) to promote crafts, etc... and I've just booked my first class for October (me teaching!!), so would be happy to do a workshop if we could find a venue.

Hi Sara and Sooz - just reading about the idea of starting a London Chapter - that is a great idea - would you like for DIY to post about it? We could post on the front page here and then on our blog and see if it drives some people your way. Let me know.

Hi all - Jennifer here... I'm American-born but recently started a place in London called The Make Lounge (http://www.themakelounge.com) which offers contemporary craft workshops.

We have plenty of space, tools, etc. for crafting and I'd be happy to host something here - we have three workshop spaces (see Flickr snaps at http://www.flickr.com/photos/meetpeople-makestuff/sets/721576044707...). Get in touch if you're game...

Also, I've been thinking of starting a London Craft Mafia so perhaps it's something we could do together?

Cheers, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, Fancy seeing you here! You must not recognise me with my wig. I took two workshops at the old Make Lounge with my husband Stuart. I just looked at the new Flickr pics. Well done you! You have been working hard, I can tell. The new space looks fantastic. (And I don't use that adjective often, so. . .) Yeah, we should start up a Craft Mafia. There's no excuse for London not having one! I'm not a RollerDerby kinda gal, but they have a league in London and that might be a good place to seek funky DIY craftsters. I'm sure there are plenty out there. Yes, let's discuss. I'm going to have to stop by your new space!

These are great ideas! I would love to be involved. I'm a graphic designer by trade and could help with graphics if needed to advertise/promote. A crafty meetup to discuss and meet each other would help get things started.

I agree! Thanks for the graphic design offer. E-mail me and let me know when you are free so we can set up a brainstorming session. Thanks, Sooz@designersooz.com
