My name is Jordanka Yaretz I was born and raised in Bulgaria and came to Canada in 1970
I was interested in art ever since I was a little girl. I used to visit the only Gallery in my home town Burgas and wished I could paint like those great artists. When I came to Canada , along with raising a family, a son with Cerebral Palsy and a daughter, I taught myself to paint.
First I copied every picture from the " How to paint " books and later from National Geographic and other Magazines.
"Natural ability without education has more often attained to glory and virtue than education without natural ability" Cicero
I tried all kinds of mediums, Pastels,Oils,Colored pencils and Acrylics. Now I use only Acrylics. I painted flowers, animals, and mostly portraits in a truly realist maner.
I always wanted to do a series of paintings of my childhood memories in a very simple way. To be able to tell a story through my paintings. My primitive, naive style evolved over the next 19 years.
I have participated in many jurried Art Shows and won numerous awards. I had solo and group exhibitions in Galleries in Canada and USA.
I was featured in countless articles in local newspapers ,including " Chatelaine Magazine". And I also appeared on 4 local TV Shows.
Eight of my paintings have been reproduced into Christmas Cards by UNICEF and the Leukemia Research Fund of B.C. Canada, with all proceeds going to the charities involved.
I live in Beautiful B.C. Canada surrounded by mountains and trees. I get very inspired by nature and it's beauty. For the past year I started a series of TREE paintings. I paint trees with passion, set in a dramatic light each tree has a character and soul all its own.
The internet has opened up great opportunities for me.
Come, visit my new shop where you will find unique gits of my art, t-shirts, handbags, cards, magnets, buttons, mugs and more.
